On
his home training ground in Thuringian Oberhof Sven Fischer is a sought
after perosn. An autograph here, a smile there: the silver medalist of
Salt Lake City in top in the spectator’s favour, especially when
everything goes well. At the German Championships in Oberhof in
September Sven Fischer won two titles. The preperation seems to be
right.
Sven:
I did a lot of general training during my preperation, e. g. by cycling
and swimming a lot and tried to open up new reserves by that. And of
course I was very anxious to see how things developed and how I would do
in comparison to the others. Now I’m happy to see that it worked.
Biathlon in summer:
Roller skis instead of skies, an unusual sight. These short boards with
rollers are an indispensable means of training, high speed included.
Sven:
You don’t fall as softly as in winter, if you fall. But of course we
already trained quite a few kilometers on the roller skis and know how
to handle them. Another important thing is: we know the training ground
and know it’s possible to run the slopes. So: no problems about that.
Two silver medals in Salt Lake City – these achievements raise
expectations for the new season.
Sven:
There are world championships this year, so there are medals to win. In
April we had a month off, where we really tried to relax both physically
and mentally. Since May we are training again, now in September we want
to see how our performance level is.
In the national sector Sven Fischer is already on top again. He
presented himself strong as usual in running and good in shooting in
Oberhof. There is a long and strenuous world cup season ahead of him,
with the world championships in Russia as its height. A challenge,
especially concerning stamina.
Sven:
This season the world championships take place in March, which is
comparatively late. It means we firstly have all world cup competitions
and finally there are the world championships. That won’t be easy and
will be a challenge to staying power. It’s an appeal to come through.
We’ll try our best.
The foundations are layed. Winter and snow might come. |
